AIOTA Certification for Ergonomically Designed Products

[GUIDELINES IN BRIEF]

Occupational Therapy is dedicated to enhancing people’s quality of life by improving their ability to engage in meaningful activities while Ergonomics is the science of modifying environments and designing products to ensure safety, comfort, and productivity. They also focus on work-related prevention and intervention services, including ergonomics. AIOTA is regularly conducting the ergonomic suitability assessments for certification of the variety of the furniture product categories like Seating, Office, Education, Healthcare and Storage etc. being produced by the manufacturing industries. Recommendations from occupational therapists, having specialization in workplace ergonomics help industries to fulfill requirements to evaluate and modify equipment design, and determine/reduce injury risk factors. The assessment, evaluation and recommendations for modification suggested for the users are based on anthropometric and biomechanical guidelines of international and national standards. The ergonomic assessment also focuses on workplace tools, equipment and behaviors to prevent injuries.

The designated AIOTA Inspection Committee Members having experience and expertise evaluate and recommend for certification of companies that focus on ergonomic designs in their ranges of furniture products. This ensures that their furniture is not only comfortable but also reduces the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders while making work easier and more efficient.

1. AIOTA Certification for Ergonomic Suitability of the Ranges of Furniture is applicable for
the Original Furniture Manufacturing Industries only.

2. AIOTA certification will specifically be for the Ergonomic Suitability, Safety and Comfort
for the users.

3. Registration with AIOTA is mandatory for all industries desiring to certify the ranges of
furniture being manufactured. It is necessary to submit the duly filled prescribed Request
Form for Registration. The Request Form may be downloaded from AIOTA Website.

4. AIOTA Certification for Ergonomic Suitability of the Ranges of Furniture is provided only
on the recommendation of designated Inspection Committee comprising of a minimum of
two members after completion of the requisite procedures of inspection in accordance with
Certification Guidelines.

5. IMPORTANT: AIOTA has not authorised any organisation, agency, board and
certification agencies to issue Compliance Certificate.

• Any Compliance or other such AIOTA certificates issued by any Agency, Board or
  Organisation should be considered as INVALID.
• AIOTA reserves the right to take reasonable action and/or legal proceedings on
  Agencies or Boards for such malpractice of issuing unauthorised Compliance
  Certificate to manufacturing industries.
